Single-Engine Courses

The FAA establishes the following minimum requirements for the Sport Pilot Certificate, Private Pilot Certificate, Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot Certificate, Certified Flight Instructor and Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument Rating:


SPORT PILOT
  • 20 Hours
  • 15 Hours Dual Instruction
  • 5 Hours Solo Flight
  • Pass a FAA Written Exam
  • Pass a Practical Exam

PRIVATE PILOT

  • 40 Hours
  • 20 Hours Dual Instruction
  • Pass a FAA Written Exam
  • Pass a Practical Exam

Instrument Rating
  • 40 hours total instrument time
  • 15 hours of instrument instruction
  • Pass a FAA knowledge test
  • Pass a FAA practical test

Commercial Pilot Cetificate
  • 250 total flight hours
  • Complex Aircraft Endorsement
  • 10 hours (min) Flight Instruction
  • Pass a FAA knowledge test
  • Pass FAA oral test
  • Pass a FAA practical test

Certified Flight Instructor

  • Hold a current Commercial (SEL) certificate 
  • Conduct flight training as appropriate
  • Pass a FAA Fundamentals of Instructing test 
  • Pass a FAA knowledge test
  • Pass a FAA practical test

CFI - Instrument (CFII)
  • Hold a current CFI certificate 
  • Conduct flight training as appropriate
  • Pass a FAA knowledge test
  • Pass a FAA practical test

 

Tail Wheel and Complex Training

Chesapeake Aviation provides the training necessary to develop the skills to operate a Complex or Tail Wheel aircraft.  Training consists of:

  • Ground Training on aircraft systems and operation
  • Flight training to develop skills unique to these aircraft.
  • Building the appropriate experience to meet insurance solo requirements (see rental page)

Ground Instruction
Ground Training consists of a comprehensive course of instruction applicable to the training course.  Topics covered include:

  • Aircraft systems
  • Aerodynamics and Aircraft Performance
  • Federal Aviation Regulations
  • Navigation and Airspace
  • Weather
  • Aeronautical Decision Making and Aviation Safety

Ground Training Classes
Chesapeake Aviation offers a comprehensive Sport Pilot, Private Pilot, and Instrument Pilot Ground Training course for those preferring a classroom environment.  This Private Pilot course is 4 weeks long and the Instrument Pilot course is 6 weeks long.  Each course meets 2 nights a week. 
 

Training Materials
Chesapeake Aviation utilizes training materials purchased through Jeppesen, ASA, and others to ensure only quality training material is provided.  The package includes all books and materials necessary to acquire the required knowledge applicable to the associated course of instruction.  The package also includes necessary materials for FAA Knowledge Test preparation.

          PA28-140, 125/hour wet
          CTSW $115/hour wet
          7ECA $115/hour wet
          C-172 RG $135/hour  wet
          PA44-180 $225/hour wet
 

  • Instructor Fees - $40.00/hour
  • Private Pilot Classroom Ground Course - $250.00
  • Instrument Pilot Classroom Ground Course - $250.00
  • Ground Training Packages - $250.00 - $300.00 (depending on your course of instruction)
  • Practical Test - $400 (Examiner fee) plus aircraft flight time
